2013 Christmas Offering
A letter from Pastor Kip:
Dear SouthLake Family-
I pray you are experiencing wonderful moments of Christmas peace and joy this season!
As you may know, on December 7th/8th I shared the vision for our Christmas Offering 2013, which we are planning to receive on the next two weekends of December 14/15 and December 22. Our Leadership Team has prayerfully identified three ministry projects that we are excited to submit as God's direction for this year's special offering- Here, Near, and Far (Acts. 1:8). As these important weekends are upcoming, I'd like to share, again, this vision and invite you to prayerfully participate as God would provide direction for us all.
The "Here" part, is to give, firstly, to meet SouthLake Family needs. This includes individual needs of single moms, single dads, unemployed parents, and other individual needs represented within our West Linn SouthLake Family. We are also hoping to fund several needs of our SouthLake Family together- PromiseLand Kids video equipment, Student Ministries facility needs, Lobby, Welcome Center, and SouthLake Serves Center improvements that will better connect our SL community and guests. This next year we would also like to create a mobile app enabling us to "Go Green" on the weekends and reach more families with updated technology.
Secondly, the "Near" part is to provide start-up costs for a SouthLake Pre-School. For years, we have been prayerfully discussing launching a pre-school. Our staff and church council believe now is the time to move forward. Start-up costs (approximately $50,000 to $75,000) would provide benefits for our entire PromiseLand Kids Ministry as well. We see a pre-school as a significant partner with PromiseLand Kids that would allow us to maximize the use of our facility, while expressing our heart to serve and reach the young families of our church and surrounding communities.
Finally, the "Far" part, represents giving to extend the ministry of Be|Undivided throughout our nation. BeUndivided is a ministry of our church and exists to inspire a movement of church-school partnerships after the model of SouthLake and Roosevelt High School. God is opening exciting doors of opportunity, as a growing number of churches are connecting with the resources we were blessed to develop this last year. (i.e. Our website (www.beundivided.com), documentary film Undivided, training modules, Pastor's Kit, webinars, etc.). Pastors and people all over the country are hearing about the remarkable story of what God has done through you at RHS. As they hear our story, see our film, and connect with our resources, they are being inspired to adopt schools and are asking us to lead in this movement to re-engage the church into the culture for the common good of our kids.
As we imagine what these three areas of opportunity represent, and the hundreds, and even thousands, of lives that would be impacted through our shared investment, it truly moves me. And I hope, with all my heart, it moves you as part of the SouthLake Family. We have an incredible opportunity to make a significant difference in representing the Kingdom together- "Here, Near, and Far".
For that reason, as your Pastor, I ask you (as I asked the weekend of Dec. 7th/8th) to prayerfully and generously participate in this upcoming SouthLake Christmas Offering 2013. We all realize some of us in the Family will NOT be able to give what we would hope to give. This is understood. Most all of us know what it's like to go through a challenging season, and you may be going through such a season now. Please know you are an important part of us, you are loved, and in our prayers each and every day. At the same time, I realize there are others in the Family who have been unusually blessed and have a lot we CAN share. Each Christmas Offering (and this one in particular) is an opportunity for those who have been blessed this past year, to step out and lead by giving graciously as you have graciously received. The point is, God will bless significantly what we do as our hearts are united together … I truly trust, as each of us does the possible, our God will do the impossible, and meet every need.
Let me close this letter by expressing a simple, but heart-felt, thank you. This Christmas will be Pam's and my 29th Christmas celebration as Pastors' of SouthLake Church. As we come to the end of yet another incredible ministry year together, please know how deeply thankful we are for your loving partnership and faithful commitment to the Kingdom. We are humbled and thankful to be your pastors, and look forward with great anticipation to the continued writing of the SouthLake Story, as we move forward together into 2014, and beyond ...
In His Love,
